Sherry

Sherry is a fortified wine from Spain. Made primarily from the Palomino grape, Sherry is not generally recommended for those who are new to drinking wine because it is often seen as an acquired taste. In much the same way that coffee is an acquired taste. This is especially true of Dry Sherry.

Once you have acquired the taste though, you will find Sherries suit every variety of tastes. Sherries can be completely dry or very sweet. Dry Sherries typically taste earthy, oaky and nutty. Sweet Sherries typically taste creamy sweet and carmel-like.

Because of the fortification and the way in which it is made, Sherry is already very oxidized! This means, an open bottle of Sherry will last almost indefinitely.

Looking for a fool-proof way to discover great tasting, affordable wines that are easy to find at your local wine shop? Ed Gandia has put together a book that does just that. This is easily the best book I've ever seen on the subject.
