Pinot Gris

Pinot Gris is a darkly colored white grape that evolved from the Pinot Noir grape. Pinot Gris grapes became popular in Italy but have been successfully grown in Oregon for quite some time now. California has several Pinot Gris vineyards, as well.

Pinot Gris wines are most commonly dry and crisp. Their flavors can include those of peaches, pears or especially lemons. If the wine has been aged in oak, it will likely have an aroma of smoked almonds or vanilla.

Made in the appropriate fashion, Pinot Gris wines are one of the few white wines which age well. Despite this, most Pinot Gris is not aged and, unless you know the wine well, it is not generally recommended that you age it yourself.
