History Of Pinot Blanc
The history of Pinot Blanc takes us back to the end of the nineteenth century which means that Pinot Blanc Wines are relatively new to the wine market. Pinot Blanc Grapes have evolved from Pinot Noir Grapes and they produce a weighty densely flavored wine.If we look more closely at the history of Pinot Blanc we can see that it was once believed that these grapes were related to Chardonnay Grapes but it has since then been proven that these grapes are actually a part of the Pinot family and although they are often compared to Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc wines are not usually as complex or flavorful.
When we study the history of Pinot Blanc we see that this grape originated in Burgundy in France where it flourished alongside Chardonnay grapes. This was until true up until 1937 when the appellation controlee system was instituted which defined which grape varieties would be permitted in Burgundy. Chardonnay grapes were chosen over Pinot Blanc grapes. Today Pinot Blanc grapes are grown in Alsace in France where it is one of the most widely planted varietals.
Throughout the history of Pinot Blanc it has been noted that this grape sets the record for the number of ways in which a wine can be presented in a bottle. This, of course, depends on the country in which the grape was grown and the winemaker's personal approach to fashioning the wine. Pinot Blanc wines can range in style from the un-complex, light and fruity Pinot Biancos of Italy to the complex oak flavored wines of California. (see also Pinot Blanc Wine Recommendations)
