German Riesling
German Riesling is probably the best known type of Riesling Wine and with good reason. German Riesling wines are the original Riesling wines and are known for their excellent variety of flavors. German Riesling wines can range in price from six dollars a bottle to sixty dollar a bottle.
Some well know German Riesling wines include the 2003 Trittenheimer Apotheke Kabinett ranging in price from twenty to twenty-five dollars a bottle. Its partner wine, the 2003 Trittenheimer Apotheke Spatlese usually costs about thirty dollars a bottle. This German Riesling wine comes from the Mosel district. The Kabinett is a round, medium bodied and lightly sweet wine with flavors of pineapple, lime and honeysuckle. The Spatlese is fleshy and intensely flavored German Riesling wine which tastes of apple, pear and honeysuckle.
These two German Riesling wines stand up very well against the Riesling wines from other countries such as Australia and America. As Germany is the home for Riesling wine, there is no reason to doubt its fine flavor and compatibility with other leading Riesling wines. (see also History of Riesling and Riesling Grapes)
There are of course some inexpensive German Riesling wines too. Such as the S.A. Prum 2003, Essence, Mosel Saar Ruwer which is priced as low as ten dollars a bottle. This German Riesling wine comes from the Mosel region and is a screw cap bottle. It provides a ripe, fruity, softly textured Riesling that tastes of plum, peach and tropical fruit with floral overtones. This German Riesling is an excellent value for the money and is a great accompaniment to most meals. (see Wine and Food Pairing and Wine and Cheese Pairing)
German Riesling wines are one some of the best selling wines in the world and are undoubtedly the best choice when it comes to Riesling wines. (see also Riesling Wine Recommendations)
