Expensive Champagne
Champagne is probably the world's most revered alcoholic drink and its status is something the French treasure. The French government also imposes very strict control over its production and not just any grape can be used in its production.Champagne growers have to first be licensed to make and bottle Champagne. Even then they are restricted to using only certain types of grapes, press a certain amount of grape juice and refrain from selling any Champagne before it has reached a certain age.
Champagne bottles must all be labelled with a code that indicates whether the grapes were grown or bought by the wine makers who bottled it. One of the most important things to know about Champagne is that no vineyards outside of Champagne in France can produce it. So if you get a bottle of Champagne that is not from the Champagne region in France then it has been mislabelled. It should be referred to as Sparkling Wines.
We all know that real Champagne is expensive but there are also some cheaper varieties available. Are they really worth it? The difference between cheap Champagne and expensive Champagne is what is called vintage and non-vintage.
Non-vintage Champagne is the cheaper of the two and accounts for eighty-five to ninety percent of all Champagnes sold in the world. Non-vintage Champagnes are composed of several different seasonal harvests rather than the grapes from a one single harvest.
Vintage Champagne has to be made from grapes that are harvested in a single season and they must be very high quality as well. Vintage Champagnes are rare and because of that they are also the most expensive Champagnes. After all, not every year will produce enough high quality grapes to make Vintage Champagnes.
When it comes to expensive Champagne, you really do get what you pay for because the more expensive the bottle is; the higher quality of the grapes used to make it. Put bluntly, expensive Champagnes provide more flavor than the cheaper brands. If you intend on buying some Champagne for a special occasion (like a Romantic Picnic in Bed) why ruin it by buying a cheap tasteless version?
