Chardonnay
Chardonnay is the most sought after white wine on the market today. At its best, Chardonnay is considered one of the best wines in the world. Chardonnay grapes are also the main grape used in the production of Champagne.Chardonnay grape vines are well known to be sensitive to climate and soil conditions. For this reason, Chardonnay flavors vary greatly depending on where the grapes are grown and the exact processes used by each winery. However, they typically taste more velvety than any other type of dry wine, in flavors ranging from citrus (lemon, grapefruit) to fruity (peach, pear) to tropical (pineapple, kiwi). If the wine has been aged in oak, it will also have a creamy, buttery tone to it.
Most stellar Chardonnays come from France but Californian wineries have also produced a few bold, rich and complex Chardonnays. Unfortunately, some Californian wineries have tarnished California's Chardonnay image by producing quick and inexpensive Chardonnay in order to fill consumer lust for any wine labeled Chardonnay.
