Buttery Chardonnay
The Chardonnay grape makes absolutely delicious wines which would explain why it is the most widely planted grape in the entire world. Chardonnay wine has become America's most popular selling white wine and boasts a very impressive range of flavors from smooth buttered oak overtones to sweet fresh fruit flavours. While the debate over which (if either) is better, many believe the very best Chardonnay wines are those with a smooth buttery taste (a "buttery Chardonnay").As you would expect, Chardonnay grapes are grown in many regions throughout the world including France, California and Australia. The best Chardonnay wines (and grapes) tend to come from countries with cooler climates like in France. But, the Chardonnay grape can also adapt extremely well to the hotter climates of places like Australia. To produce a really good buttery Chardonnay, the grapes are sometimes put through a secondary process known as malolactic fermentation. This reduces the typically crisp flavor found in many Chardonnay wines and brings out a rich buttery taste.
Some of the most popular buttery Chardonnay wines are Californian Chardonnay wines. They are such immensely popular wines because of their rich, mouth filling buttery flavors. Most Californian buttery Chardonnay wines are a great accompaniment to foods such as pasta and seafood. (Check Wine and Food Pairing for more info.)
A good buttery Chardonnay wine is a full bodied rich tasting wine that has been fermented in oak barrels. Buttery Chardonnay wines are some the most popular wines among white wine drinkers. Of course, Chardonnay wines are very popular in general and the Chardonnay grape is also used in making champagne. A rich buttery Chardonnay wine is a thing of beauty but California doesn't have the market cornered on great buttery Chardonnay wines. Almost everyone knows that the French make excellent wines. So, it's no surprise that the burgundy region of France is another region where excellent buttery Chardonnay wines come from.
Although these wines may be a little bit more expensive, when you purchase a buttery Chardonnay wine you should remind yourself that you do indeed pay for quality and taste when it comes to wine. And while a buttery Chardonnay wine may not be the best wine to enjoy with dinner five nights a week, it is the perfect wine for a romantic dinner for two.
A genuinely buttery Chardonnay really is a remarkable tasting wine and a "must try" if you have never had the opportunity.
